Background of the National Conference on Steel Structures

The first National Conference on Steel Structures took place in 1973 in Timişoara, at the initiative of Acad. Prof. Dan Mateescu, becoming, through the following series of conferences, a highly valued academic tradition in this domain in Romania.

Bringing together some of the most reputed international experts in the field, the National Conferences on Steel Structures offer an opportunity meeting for academics, researchers, and engineers in the field of steel constructions, fostering transfers from science to innovation, the exchange of innovative ideas, and scientific performances through fruitful debates and discussions. The conferences have played an important role in connecting specialists in steel constructions with the latest European directions of research, design trends and codes for practice, gaining unanimous appreciation and popularity among the Romanian and international scientific community.

In November 2013, at the 13th edition of the Conference, organized by the Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest, it was suggested for the event to be held every two years, each time being hosted by another prestigious civil engineering faculty in Romania. Consequently, the 14th edition was held in Cluj under the name “Build with Steel”, at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Cluj Napoca.

The 15th edition will be held between16-17 November 2017 in Iaşi, proudly hosted by the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Building Services with in the "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University.

We hope that the 15th National Conference on Steel Structures will bring together the present and the future of steel constructions in Romania. This is also an opportunity for researchers and engineers in the field of steel construction to publish the achievements of their researches or studies, to establish connections with both Romanian and foreign specialists, as well as with related steel associations and companies, and also to connect them with the latest innovative ideas and innovations in the field of steel constructions.
